SAARC ENT Congress

College of Otorhinolaryngologists and Head and Neck Surgeons of Sri Lanka proudly hosted the 9th SAARC ENT Congress. The event was attended by delegates from countries around the world. There were 62 guest speakers from 10 different countries. We were fortunate to have met with colleagues of SAARC and non-SAARC regions to share our knowledge, attitudes and skills. All in all participants had pleasant memories to cherish for the years to come.

Hearnig Aid Use and Social Stigmatisation

Among many reasons why hearing-aid use is low in our country, is the "stigma" attached with using a hearing aid. Most Lankans are reluctant to wear a hearing aid in the public. This is in sharp contrast to wearing spectacles for refractory errors. As a result, there is a significant proportion of the deaf community not reaping the benefit of the available technology. There should be some mechanism to reduce the stigma attached with it and make hearing aids socially acceptable. What are your thoughts about this problem? Leave your comments below. Thanks.
